One Shot continued..

In our groups we had to make a practice short one shot film. We discussed ideas, like someone getting stuck in a lift, a day in the life of a student, an advert, and we decided to make a short film about us discussing what to make our one shot film about, and then realizing we left the camera on. We tried this out a few times, but it just didn't seem right, we thought it was boring and nothing really happened in it. We then had this idea that the camera could be a cctv camera, and it would film a girl dropping her purse, and then someone steals it. It was a lot better than the previous idea we had I really liked the end result.

Then we had to make our real one shot film before the next week, so we arranged to meet up on Friday and began brainstorming ideas. One idea was to make a film about a blind date, but I didn't like it that much as I wasn't sure how we could go about making the film, and making it interesting to watch and not just have a film of people talking. We then realized it was Friday 13th and thought about making a film about bad luck!

We thought about things that happen which seem like bad luck and thought about how and where we could film them. We came up with ideas like walking under ladders, seeing black cats and things like that, and then we came up with things like slipping on banana skins, forgetting keys, having your drink fizz up and spill all over you, and having the cash machine out of order when you really want to take money out. These things would have to be filmed in the same place as it had to be done in one shot, and we couldn't move the camera around, we could only twist it, so we decided to film our one shot in the SU.

We decided to link this film to our previous one by using the cctv idea again. The camera captured unlucky things happening to people and moved around like a cctv camera. I think the filming went well, and we managed to get it done after a few takes and everyone's movements and acting were insync. Everyone seemed happy with what we had produced, and I was looking forward to editing our film to make it look more like cctv.

Then it was our next seminar where we uploaded our film onto premiere. To make it look like a cctv camera we turned it to black and white, and played with the contrast. We then added 'noise' to make it look grainy. We thought that the film started to quickly, so we copied a section showing the empty hallway and then pasted it at the start of our film and stretched it so it lasted for short time. We then played with the ending to make it quite funny. Caleb slips on the banana here, and we copied it and then pasted it three times to emphasise him slipping, and the third part we stretched to make it slow motion. We then reduced the background noise, but still managed to keep the noise of the drink spilling quite well. We wanted to add sound effects, but we couldn't find a sound that was just how we wanted it. We then added a date and a clock to our film to make it look even more like cctv and added a title and ending. Then we had finished! It turned out well I think I wasn't sure how it would look but I think we made it look quite realistic and it is different.

Here is our finished film. An edge has been cut off and we are trying to fix this, but you still get a good idea.
