'Everything thought up by humans is design'

Design Processes

There are four phases-
• Discovering
• Developing
• Defining
• Delivering
-This is a classic design process-

Discovering-
Inspiration

• Having ideas, insights, new things
• Research past and present solutions, analyzing
• Understanding users
Here you need to use your imagination to create something new and interesting that hasn’t been done before whilst taking into account the possible target audience for this idea.

Developing-
Selecting ideas and creating

• Planning
• Develop concepts and prototypes
• Acceptance test
• Choose and refine
So from the ideas that were discovered, one idea has to be chosen and developed further. It needs to be in depth to discover its full potential.

Defining-
Validation

• Usability test, feedback
• Refine
• Further development
This is where you further improve you idea, smoothing the edges. It needs to be refined by comparing it to what you first wanted to achieve and deciding if you have made something better or worse.

Delivering-
Evaluation

• Effectiveness
• Impact
• Completion
• Implement
This is seeing if your design is successful and how you could change it or improve it.

Design Methodologies – A way of working
• Reverse engineering
• Prototyping
• Open source – collaboration, sharing information
• Market research – what is needed?

We had to get into groups here and discuss what we thought were the essentials of one of these design methodologies.

Prototype
• Discover flaws
• See how it would work
• To test your design on people
• So you can show it to audience and get them to interact with it
• Make sure it works
• Compare different designs
• Make sure they are safe
