My Dead Pony

Otherwise known as Raphael Vincenzi.. He is a self taught illustrator who I came across when reading Computer Arts magazine. This is one of his pieces called donut death wish. I like the how some parts are quite faint, and others bold, it makes the image interesting to look at, it isn't just a big block of colour. I think the doughnut is more bold than the woman because she is fading away, like she is dying because of the doughnut. I'm not sure if it is to do with models and skinny girls starving themselves.. or something completely different. He says that his goal as an artist is not to only make beautiful pictures, but to look cynically at himself and his environment.

With this illustration he said on deviant art to describe it.. " I always thought that people who went through hardships, misfortunes or bad times and who kept going with their lives and make the most out of it, no matter what happened were the true heroes."
I don't know if this helps me understand the image more if it just confuses me. I think what attracts me most to these images is the use of colour and the different strokes and patterns he creates.
